Where have you been?

Some folks have asked me “Where have you been for the last four years?”
Between my work with the Arts Council, Merchants Association, Main Street program, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, 2040 Vision Committee (among others), and ultimately, City Council, I had been serving the community in some capacity for at least 15 years. After my difficult and disappointing reelection bid, I was tired and, frankly, a bit burned out.
My wife and I, along with our extended family, needed some time to reconnect, reflect, recover, and to simply rest.
Part of that process was realizing that I made mistakes and did not do as good of a job as I could (and should) have explaining my position at times. I hope I have learned from my missteps and will not make those mistakes again (I will make all new ones! 😊).
And then the world shut down.
We, in addition to concern for our own health, both have high-risk family members that we help care for, so we isolated more and for longer than many others did. We got very familiar with every Canton restaurant’s take-out menu! I also, like most people, had to adapt my business to function less “in person.”
All that being said, I have been living a “non-public” life for the most part as just another citizen of Canton. We have been spending time rediscovering the people and places of this city that we love.
When this election year came around, I waited to see if anyone who shared my vision for Canton would throw their hat in the ring. After much discussion and prayer, we ultimately decided that person was me.
So, rejuvenated and rededicated, I am once again stepping into the ring to fight for you, the citizens of Canton.
